Matthias Verstraelen is academic assistant at the research department Human Physiology, Faculty LK of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.
Within the research domain of thermophysiology he is currently working on the Cold 2 Gold project of Sport Vlaanderen, the Flemish government. Within this project innovative cooling garments are developed directing to the Olympic Games of Tokyo 2020. During these Games, extreme weather conditions are expected. Any essential aspect will be to cool the athletes as good as possible before, during and after their competitions to be able to deliver the most optimal performances. The research group will give advice on physical and cognitive exercise protocols during which the physiological and mental effects of wearing these cooling garments will be evaluated.
