Vakgroep Menselijke fysiologie (MFYS)

Dr. E.A.L.M. Verhagen (1976) is a human movement scientist and epidemiologist. He is employed as senior researcher at the Department of Public and Occupational Health of the VU University Medical Center and the EMGO Institute in Amsterdam. Within the department's research theme 'Sports, Lifestyle and Health' his main research topics are: 1. Prevention of sports and physcial activity related injuries (including cost-effectiveness and implementation issues); and 2. Physical activity promotion integrated in everyday life. He is project leader of several (inter-)national PhD projects.

He has many international scientific collaborations. Since 2009 he also has a honoraray research position at the Free University of Brussels. He is member of the editorial board of the Journal of Science and Medicine in Sports, and associate editor of the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Within the department he also has teaching responsibilities within the faculties of Medicine, Human Movement Sciences and Health Sciences, and individual supervision in research training. For three consecutive years he has been voted as one of the best teacher's by the students of the faculty of Medicine
